Halfway There: How to Finish the Year Strong
Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?! Time. Is. Flying.
For me, it’s easy to look at where I’m at and get anxious. The first quarter is notoriously slower, and the second is more of a warm up for three and four. The downside to setting big goals is that without some careful examination throughout the year they can seem even more daunting as the time flies by.
Whether you’re right on track with your goals or feeling like some of them have slipped through the cracks, this is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and recalibrate.
This week, let’s dig into what it really means to make progress—and how sometimes, the biggest wins are the ones we don’t see on paper. Even if you haven’t hit every target you set in January, there are victories worth celebrating. Here are some ideas I’m trying to focus on that can help us gain traction, clarity, and momentum over the next six months—because there’s still plenty of time to finish the year strong!
Focus 1- Take Inventory
It’s incredibly easy to fall into the trap of the happiness formula. “When X happens, I’ll be happy.” It rarely works, and more often than not it can zap the enjoyment out of the pursuit. The growth comes in the pursuit. What did you learn about yourself? Your Business? Your clients? Where am I NOT giving myself enough credit? I guarantee you, you’ve already achieved goals you said would make you happy! Celebrate those. Alex Hormozi frames gratitude and presence by thinking about his 85 year old self waking up as his current self. It allows him to enjoy the mundane of the here and now because he knows his 85 year old self would give anything to enjoy it again.
Focus 2- Big Goals Create Gravity
Codie Sanchez calls it Goal Gravity — the force that pulls everything in your business (or life) toward the target. Small goals? We tend to drift, or get bored. Big goals? Priorities sharpen. People step up. Or get out of the way. Even if you miss — and you very well might — you land somewhere you couldn’t have reached playing it small. The real trap is often the scale of our thinking. But thinking big isn’t just a mindset. It’s a choice you have to make, constantly. So how do we think bigger, more consistently? Exploitation = Repeat what already works. Exploration = Try what might work better. Exploitation gets you efficiency. Exploration gets you breakthroughs.
Focus 3. Pareto’s Principle
Who’d have thought an Italian economist from the 1800’s could impact our lives today. Vilfredo Pareto observed that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population. He later discovered the ratio applied to many other fields. Pareto’s Principle is more widely known today as the 80/20 rule… identifying and focusing on the "vital few" (the 20%) can lead to far greater results than spreading effort evenly across everything. What are the things you're doing today (and the past 6 months) that account for 80% of your results? How can you double down on those activities? In contrast, what are some of the things you’ve been doing that aren’t getting you the results you need? Cut them out and explore some new paths. In business and life, applying the Pareto Principle helps prioritize what really moves the needle—and minimize wasted time and energy!
Progress isn’t always about perfection. It’s about showing up with intention, learning from what’s behind you, and staying open to what’s ahead. Whether you’re celebrating major wins or regrouping from a slower start, now is the perfect time to realign and re-energize. Let’s take bold, focused steps toward the goals that still matter to you. We've got six fresh months in front of us—let’s make them count!
